Frequently Asked Questions

  • Cancer is a disease caused by genetic changes within cells of our body. Harmful mutations can cause normal cells to grow and divide uncontrollably, leading to cancer. Genetic testing or tumor profiling can identify unique combinations of mutations within a patient’s tumor.

  • Circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is genetic material that is shed by dying cancer cells. Circulating tumor RNA (ctRNA) is genetic material that is actively released by living cancer cells.

Both ctDNA and ctRNA are cancer signals that can be detected in the blood for genetic testing to help your doctor select the appropriate treatment for your cancer.

  • Testing can be done at the time of diagnosis to develop a personalized treatment plan from the start. However, testing is available at any point in your journey. Testing can also be utilized to monitor your response to treatment and/or changes within your tumor.

Talk to your doctor about whether testing is right for you.

  • If appropriate, your doctor will order a LiquidHALLMARK test for you. You will be required to draw 2 tubes of blood which will be sent to our Palo Alto laboratory for testing. A report is generated 7-9 working days after your blood sample is accepted at our laboratory. Your report will be sent to your doctor directly and they will discuss the results with you.

Taking the first step toward answers can feel daunting, but you don’t have to do it alone.
